Experience & levels, skills and more! - pre-alpha.0.8.0 is out now!
Untitled Dungeon Crawler » Devlog
This update introduces experience, leveling and skills! For now there's only weapon skills and some basic combat skills. More skills will be added as the game is developed.
Party members gain experience by participating and surviving combat encounters. The experience is split amongst all surviving party members at the end of combat, so if some party members are dead, the survivors will gain more experience. Party members gain attribute points and skill points they can spend when gaining a level.
Full changelog below:
- Added skills. For now only weapon skills and close/ranged combat skills. These will gain experience and levels as you play and help make attacks in combat more likely to hit. More skills will be added as the game is developed. The skills UI can be opened using the F key.
- Added experience and levelling. Party members will now be awarded experience after combat encounters and gain levels when enough experience is gained. Gaining levels awards party members with additional health/stamina/mana and grants attribute and skill points that can be spent.
- Party members are no longer able to equip weapons that they don't have the required skill for.
- Added message queueing system to display more prominent messages in the UI. Also added message cube to test it out.
- Armor class now has an effect on combat. Armor class helps reduce incoming damage.
- Armor class will now be displayed on equipped items on the inventory screen.
- Pressing the escape key will now properly close the inventory screen if it is open instead of bringning up the pause menu.
- Fixed the encumbrance indicator on the inventory screen being incorrect on initial game start until some inventory change occurred.
- Clicking character portraits or hitting the same number keys multiple times will no longer cause party member portraits to be toggled open if the inventory screen is open.
- Party members' encumbrance levels should now properly update when party members die to fall damage.
- Enemies should no longer target party members that have died due to fall damage.
